About

Hello and welcome to my website!

I was born in Surrey and moved to Brooke, Norfolk as a teenager.  I studied art to A2-level at Hewett Sixth Form, Norwich, but opted to get a job rather than venture onto University.  This led to a move to Swindon where I met my soulmate, Dan.  Work then took us abroad, living 2.5 years in China, before settling back in Devizes, Wiltshire in 2009.

I have worked in various industries such as the motor trade, furniture manufacturing, interior design and now estate agency.  I love music, art, design and property, and spend my spare time painting, cooking, watching live music, socialising, going on motorbike adventures and walking the beautiful countryside of Wiltshire.

I set up Jayne Baker Original Artworks in 2020 during the Covid-19 pandemic lockdown.  Having done little artwork since leaving Sixth Form in 2000, my 3.5 months of Furlough Leave during the lockdown gave me time outside of full-time employment to fully focus on being creative.

It started with a personal project painting myself and my now husband Dan’s favourite flowers and creatures on a large canvas for our lounge wall.  That took 20 days and challenged me to attempt painting subjects I have never tried before.  There is a time-lapse video on my YouTube Channel showing the various stages of painting this, which I called ‘Hope’.  Then I was stuck.  I didn’t know what to paint next and felt very uninspired.

Whilst still in lockdown, my friend Sue sent me a series of meditation audio links by Deepak Chopra over the course of 28 days.  Having never really meditated before, I struggled to get into it until one day he struck a chord.  He talked about how everything materialises from the Earth.  This sent my mind off into thinking about Mother Nature and how the American Red Indian’s celebrate Mother Earth and respect all that the Earth offers.  I remember my step-mother, Dolores, had a book when I was growing up, of artworks by Susan Seddon-Boulet.  Her works were based on the Native American Red Indian’s and their beliefs.  Dolores sent me the book, and along with research on the internet, I began creating artworks inspired by a theme.

With a dream of one day having my own solo exhibition and Private View, I focused on creating a body of work.  This series of artworks is called ‘Born’.  Born from lockdown; Born into the world of art.  I had my very first solo exhibition in July 2022!

I hope you enjoy browsing my artwork.
